Hi!  I'm Bud.  This is how our mission came to life.

I started going to Kodiak Island, Alaska in 1991 just to visit my friends there,
fell in love with the place and went back year after year.  I was in a high
stress job, and I found that Kodiak healed my spirit.  After being there for a
week, I felt renewed.  It allowed me to go back to my job with a better
outlook and tackle it for another year.

In 1996 I was convicted to help pastors stay in the ministry longer. Pastors
are the single most occupationally frustrated group in America.  Statistics say
that about 75% of pastors go through a period of stress so great that they
consider quitting the ministry.  It became clear to me that there was a
growing need for pastors to get away.  Since Kodiak turned out to be such a
great place for my personal renewal, I thought it could do the same for
others.

In 2001 I finally found a place that would work, and I bought it.  Three
months later, my first wife was diagnosed with cancer.  We spent the next five
years battling it.  Not knowing when we could go up and spend time on
Kodiak, we never got the Pastor’s Retreat started.  My first wife died in 2006.

The place I bought on Kupreanof Strait is a remote site on the northwest side
of Kodiak Island.  It turned out to be the most wonderful place to be restored
and refreshed when times were the hardest.  I made many trips there.  It
saved my life.  I couldn’t understand Gods timing, but I always knew He was
in control of things.   Not much made sense during those  years, but
I didn’t give up hope.
